Windows Setup Instructions

Step 1: To access the Michener VPN, open a web browser (Firefox, Chrome or Opera, not Internet Explorer) and enter https://vpn.michener.ca in the address bar. You will need to include the https:// part. Simply typing “vpn.michener.ca” will not resolve. A Cisco VPN page should load. Enter the same username and password you use to log into your computer or email.

Step 2: It should then detect that you’re using Windows, and attempt to use Java to install the client. This will most likely fail as Java has been depreciated in most modern browsers. If it succeeds, skip to Step 4. If not, proceed to Step 3.

Step 3: If Java-based installation fails, it will proceed to a manual install. Click the blue “Windows Desktop” link to proceed with the installation. A file will download. Click the “anyconnect-win-3.1.05160-web-deploy-k9” file at the bottom of the window.

Step 4: An installer window will open. Click “Next”. In the next part, click the “I accept the terms in the License Agreement” radio button, and click “Next”.

Step 5: You will then reach the end of the installer. Click “Install”.

Step 6: The installer should then complete. Click “Finish” to close it.

Step 7: Now click the Start menu, and in the search bar enter “cisco”. The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client should be the first result. Click it to open.

Step 8: In the AnyConnect client, type https://vpn.michener.ca and click “Connect”. It will ask you for your username and password. This is the same username and password you use to log onto computers & email. Click “OK”.

Step 9: You should now be successfully connected. You can now access any services internal to the Michener network, such as LearningSpace, Coral or fileshares.

Step 10: To disconnect from the VPN, right-click the round blue & white icon in your system tray. Choose “VPN Disconnect”. To reconnect in the future, right-click the same icon and choose “VPN Connect”.
