Step 1 – To access the Michener VPN, open a web browser and enter https://vpn.michener.ca in the address bar. You will need to include the https:// part. Simply typing “vpn.michener.ca” will not resolve. A Cisco VPN page should load. Enter the same username and password you use to log into your computer or email.
Step 2 – It should then detect that you’re using a Mac, and attempt to use Java to install the client. If this works, you can skip to Step 4. If not, proceed to Step 3.
Step 3 – If Java-based installation fails, it will proceed to a manual install. Click the blue “Mac OS X 10.6+ (Intel)” link to proceed with the installation. A file will download. Click the Downloads button in the top-right corner to open your downloads window. Double-click the “anyconnect-macosx-3.1.05160-web-deploy-k9” file in that list. A window will then open with an installer package. Double-click that package.
Step 4 – An installer window will open. Click “Continue” and leave all options as default.
Step 5 – You will then reach the end of the installer. Click “Install”.
Step 6 – The installer will then ask for your username & password to continue. This refers to the local username and password for your Mac. Enter that information, and click “Install Software”.
Step 7 – The installer should then complete. Close it, and click the Spotlight icon near the top right corner of your desktop and type “cisco”. The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client should be the first result. Click it to open.
Step 8 – In the AnyConnect client, type https://vpn.michener.ca and click “Connect”. It will ask you for your username and password. This is the same username and password you use to log onto computers & email. Click “OK”.
Step 9 – You should now be successfully connected. You can now access any services internal to the Michener network, such as IntelliSpace, Coral or fileshares.
Step 10 – To disconnect from the VPN, click the round green & white icon in your menubar. Under “VPN” choose “Disconnect”. To reconnect in the future, click the same icon and choose “Connect”.
